Foster Care Fortnight, 12-25 May 2008

Foster Care Fortnight, co-ordinated by the Fostering Network, is an annual UK-wide awareness campaign which raises the profile of fostering and highlights the need for more foster carers.

Recruitment of foster carers

This year alone we need over 5,000 more people to come forward and become foster carers. Each year Foster Care Fortnight helps raise awareness of fostering, and in particular encourages people to consider becoming foster carers.

During the two weeks fostering services around the UK hold events and promote their need for more foster carers in their communities and through their local media.

Foster Care Fortnight 2007

Last year 27 foster families from around the UK shared their experiences through a new promotional film about fostering and throughout Foster Care Fortnight. Stories about fostering and the difference that it can make appeared throughout the media and hundreds of people came forward to find out more about fostering.

“When children move on it can be painful, but we have to deal with it by thinking it's a job really well done.”
